Following negotiations with Local, State and Federal Government’s, in 2021 the Twin Rivers Community Mallet Sports Club set up residence at Bedford Park in Eagleby.
The club is now in vital need of funding assistance to upgrade two of their four courts.
“The courts are subject to significant and ongoing flooding issues/damage due to lack of drainage,” Member for Forde, Bert van Manen said.
“Ultimately, the club wants to have four pristine courts so they can host national championships, bringing tourism and money to the region.
”A re-elected Coalition Government will provide $170,000 to the club, to ensure this dream is realised.
“I am committed to working with the club and its members to make sure they can get moving on the much-needed works,” the Member for Forde said.
Not only does the club provide an activity for their growing member-base, they also work with schools to give students a new skill to master. Mr van Manen put a petition out in the community in late 2024 calling for likeminded support for this project.
“We were thrilled with the response. Thank you to everyone who supported our campaign. It only further cemented our desire to see this project over the line,” Mr van Manen said.
Twin Rivers Community Mallet Sports Club president, Maia McGhee, said it was fantastic to have the support of their Federal Member.
“Bert has always been an incredibly good supporter of ours,” Ms McGhee said.
“The courts we have were built without the proper drainage, so any heavy rain we get the courts flood, and we lose a lot of playing days. It’ll take a lot of work, but we want to make sure they’re up to scratch so we can host tournaments. This funding and Bert’s support is vital for that to happen,” she said.
