Tobacconist Shop still closed

On January 18th a fire broke out in Uncle Billy's Tobacconist Shop in City Road, Beenleigh as reported in "Fire in Beenleigh"

Stock and furnishings in the shop were damaged or destroyed.

The shop has been closed since.

Ali, the manager, stated that the cause of the fire is as yet unknown.

Ali was originally hopeful that the shop would reopen to the public within about a week. He has kept a presence at the site to service his regular customers.

The fire also damaged the neighbouring shop "Comfort Cozy Massage".

They were closed for a few days and have now reopened.

Police have not yet made any comment on the cause of the fire.

It has now been determined that there is asbestos in the building and this will probably delay the reopening to the public.
