A DEADLY Forde intersection is long overdue an upgrade according to Federal Member Bert van Manen MP.

With continued growth in the Bannockburn and Belivah area, Mr van Manen said the installation of traffic lights at the Beaudesert-Beenleigh Rd intersection with Bannockburn and Belivah Roads, was a necessity.

“This intersection has a history of crashes and fatalities.“To date, the State Government has applied a band aid solution. Minor line-marking does nothing to deal with the real issues,” he said.

"Queensland’s axed former Minister for Transport and Main Roads, Mark Bailey, was seemingly aware of the increased traffic volumes, yet failed to act.

Beaudesert-Beenleigh Road is one of the busiest rural arterial roads in Queensland, serving as a major tourist, transport and freight route,” Bailey said in March 2023.

A petition, started by Mr van Manen and with support from residents, has begun circulating

.“There’s been previous petitions done by concerned residents that have attracted hundreds of signatures.  I want to continue their good work and apply pressure on the State Government.  Whether the Crisafulli-led LNP win in October or Labor get back over the line, this project needs to be funded.”

Over the past few years there’s been considerable growth in the area, including the opening of Bannockburn Shopping Centre on the corner of the deadly intersection.

“The volumes of traffic are going to continue to grow and grow in this area,” Mr van Manen said.“I would encourage residents of Forde, and particularly those directly impacted day to day, to sign the petition and put further pressure on the government to fund the upgrades.”
