As we head into a season of rainy and unpredictable weather, the Queensland Police Service (QPS) is urging all road users to drive to conditions, prioritise safety and remember; If It’s Flooded, Forget It.

Flooding can happen anywhere, anytime and even the smallest amount of water on the road can lead to dangerous consequences.  Driving through floodwater puts yourself and your vehicle at risk, so it is essential motorists remain vigilant when behind the wheel.  No matter how shallow it may look, never attempt to drive through flooded streets, or water covering the roadways.

A car can lose traction and be swept away in as little as 15cm of water, particularly with some newer models of cars’ manufacturing materials causing them to become more buoyant.

Always take the time to seek alternate, drier routes, even if this may mean a longer drive  .What may seem like a minor inconvenience, could save your life.

If it’s flooded, forget it!

The Queensland Police Service is committed to reducing the number of lives lost on our roads.Data shows that serious crashes can be significantly reduced when drivers recognise and avoid the ‘Fatal Five’ behaviours: speeding, drink and drug driving, not wearing seatbelts, fatigue and distraction.

Road safety is everyone’s responsibility.
