Detectives have seized more than $2.6 million worth of drugs and charged a man for trafficking drugs into Queensland, following a traffic stop near the southern Queensland border.

Operation Whiskey Whisper, led by detectives from Hendra Criminal Investigation Branch (CIB), was set up to investigate the importation and dealing of cocaine and methylamphetamine between Sydney, Brisbane, and surrounding areas.  On October 28, it will be alleged detectives intercepted a vehicle driving along the New England Highway near Wallangarra and a subsequent search of that vehicle located 30kg of methylamphetamine concealed in tea packaging.

It will be further alleged detectives conducted a search warrant at a Murarrie property and located money counters, drug packaging and other dangerous drugs including ice and steroids.

A 33-year-old Bahrs Scrub man has been charged with four counts each of possess anything used in commission of crime and possess S4 and S8 medicines, and one count each of trafficking dangerous drugs, possessing dangerous drugs over schedule 4, supply dangerous drugs, possess dangerous drugs, possess property suspected, and fail to dispose needles.

He was remanded in custody and is expected to reappear before Stanthorpe Magistrates Court on February 12, 2025.

Detective Inspector John Mison said the operation had removed a significant quantity of drugs from our streets

.“Illicit drugs have no place in our community, and Queensland Police will continue to do all we can to target trafficking and possession to keep the community safe,” he said.
